Janek Jayasekera

Janek Jayasekera - Committee Member

Mr. Janek Jayasekara is the Director and Group Chief Operating Officer of the Akbar Brothers Group of Companies.

He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Colombo, and a Master of Science Degree in Accountancy and Finance from the UK.

He is a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants UK, an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and a Fellow Member of the Certified Practicing Accountants of Australia. He is also an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK.

He commenced his career at Ernst & Young, followed by the John Keells Group, the Richard Pieris Group and at the Standard Chartered Bank. 

During this period of 23 years, Janek acquired a wealth of experience having worked in multiple sectors such as Transportation & Logistics, Manufacturing, Food & Beverages, Leisure, Exports, Retail & Distribution, Construction, Banking, Audit and Financial Services.

Prior to Joining Akbar Brothers, he was with the Al Rajhi Bank – The worlds largest Islamic Bank, based at its head quarters in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. During his 5 year tenure with the bank, his final appointment was as a Director and Chief Financial Officer of the bank based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
